Eighteen years ago, an artist and all of his paintings were destroyed in a mysterious fire, Chelsea Deardon (Daryl Hannah) is accused of stealing a painting from Victor Taft (Terrence Stamp) an art dealer. Her attorney, Laura Kelly (Debra Winger) is convinced by Chelsea’s story that the painting belongs to her and was a present from her dead father years ago. Kelly has a hard time getting anyone to believe her client. They both believe that this simple theft goes far deeper and may finally solve the mystery of the fire. Tom Logan (Robert Redford), an assistant district attorney, is finally persuaded to help with the investigation. What they team up to find out, will shock the entire law enforcement and legal community.
